Once again, Richmond MORE is partnering with Sports Backers to help with the annual Anthem Moonlight Ride this year on Saturday, August 17th.  So, if you are not planning to ride in the event, but would like to participate and have fun otherwise, we are looking for about 25 volunteers to help out.

For more info on the event itself, please visit www.sportsbackers.org/events/anthem-moonlight-ride

In exchange for recruiting volunteers, Richmond MORE will receive a cash donation from Sports Backers in order to continue raising money for the IMBA Ride Center Project down at Pocahontas State Park, http://www.governor.virginia.gov/news/viewRelease.cfm?id=1888.

What do I have to do as a volunteer?

Course Marshals

Course marshals are needed to help direct the ride participants at certain points along the course.  For this, we need fifteen volunteers to cover the entire course.  Don’t worry, you will not be standing on a street corner alone – you’ll be paired up with another person.  The long course is 17 miles, so you could potentially be at your post for at least two hours. It’s in the evening, so at least you won’t be standing in the blazing hot sun.

As a course marshal, you will be notified in advance of your location. On event day you will be meeting with the Course Marshall Coordinator at 7:00 p.m. to be briefed on your specific duties and issued a reflective vest, flashlight and for some of you a bullhorn.

What’s in it for me as a volunteer?

If you happen to ride or hike the James River trails on a regular basis, your volunteer efforts help Richmond MORE continue their efforts as stewards of the trails.  The money that MORE raises goes directly back into building and maintaining the trails in the area for everyone to use.  As mentioned above, fundraising efforts are underway for the Pocahontas Park IMBA Ride Center.

No really, what’s in it for me?

It may sound like a lot of work, but it will be a fun event, under a full moon with tons of people.  After you are relieved of your volunteer duties, by all means, go have fun at the post-ride party!

You will also get dinner (most likely pizza)

And an Anthem Moonlight Ride t-shirt

One last thing – if you sign up to volunteer, realize that you are making a commitment to be there the evening of the event.  So please make every effort to show up and be there on time.  If you need to back out for whatever reason, please try to give advanced notice – not the day before or the day of the event.  Thanks!

So, are you convinced?  Good! Please contact Bob Wheatley at oneseventh@yahoo.com or by phone, 938-2687.

Your time and support are very much appreciated!

Thanks!
