Last weekend saw the completion of over 100 ft of new trail on Chapel Island. Special thanks to the James River Hikers who have been out every weekend this year, moving dirt, rocks, gravel, logs and building new trail.  They are a great group and if you have any interest in hiking, head on over to their Meetup.com page and check them out.

This weekend, work will continue on Chapel Island at 9am on Saturday.  A group from The Collegiate School will be working during the week and we hope that is will be one of the last weekends of work on Chapel Island.  We’ll then be able to focus on Buttermilk, Northbank and Forest Hill for the remainder of the year.

Also on Saturday, Richmond-MORE and Richmond ASR will be teaming up for a trail work day at the Scout Camp.  Part of the reason we can ride at the school camp is because we agreed to help maintain the trails, so it’s really important that we have a good turn out.  A number of weeks ago, we had a full trail assessment done and now it’s time to start working on these trail projects.  This weekend, we will start working on the first reroute section of trail located behind the administration building.  Cycles Ed Jones and Clark Jones (no relation) have already flagged the trail corridor and this work will involve clearing that corridor.  We will also be working on one of the bridges (one of many) that needs to be repaired.

Work begins at 9am and continues until 1pm. Meeting location has changed to the Boy Scout Administration Building (turn LEFT upon entering the camp – 1723 Maidens Road, Maidens, VA). Bring water, food and gloves, and prepare to get muddy. If you have any of the following tools, please bring them along: Lopping shears, Handsaws, Shovels (round tipped), Bow rakes (hard rake), Axes or hatchets, Pick axe/Mattocks.

Due to trail conditions, there will be no ride after the work session.
