Earlier this year an MOU was signed with the City of Richmond making the Gillies Creek Dirt Jumps (located behind the BMX track) a legitimate park facility.  We’re hosting a couple of events to cleanup the area and involve the community in the future of the dirt jumps.

MARCH 31 – Community Vision Day hosted on site for community feedback regarding jump park area and renovation/development from 5pm-6pm.  Please come out and meet with rvaMORE and the builders to help with the vision for this dirt jump area.  Now is the time to give the city and rvaMORE your thoughts.

APRIL 30 – Community Cleanup Day Work Day hosted on site to remove trash, debris, safety hazards, etc. 9am-1pm

rvaMORE signs new MOU with City

Last spring the city of Richmond parks department approached rvaMORE about some illegal dirt jumps at Gillies Creek Park. Their concern was that they were built without permission and felt that the design could be both a safety problem and a sustainable concern. They did not want to destroy the work and was eager to come to a solution to keep that area open for folks who like to ride these types of jumps.

rvaMORE & the city trails department meet with the builders and reviewed the design and build and determined that the work was pretty solid. One change we recommended is there is a progression from beginner to intermediate added to the mostly expert jumps out there. We also recommend we talk with the rest of the community to understand how others would use this area. Our goal is to set up a 5 year plan to enhance Gillies for all of the users and the city. This new MOU adds this area under rvaMORE’s citywide agreement that maintains access, building and maintaining trails along with liability insurance for work days.

The MOU that rvaMORE has with the city is the conduit the mountain bike community has built with the City of Richmond. rvaMORE has advocated for access to trails throughout the city for the past 11 years. rvaMORE has partnered with the city trails department and volunteers to build and maintained over 30 miles of single track trail within the city. Richmond is the first urban Bronze IMBA Ride Center for a reason. No other city in the US has the amount of high quality trail located in the city center. This means access to great riding without a car or a 2 hour drive to the mountains. rvaMORE is your representative to the city – the mountain biker’s voice in Richmond. rvaMORE applauds the city of Richmond’s financial support and its dedicated staff that builds and maintains our trails, the key to great urban trails that Richmonders enjoys.
